Terms & client agreement

How counselling here works, and what we each agree to.

Overview

This page sets out how I work and what we each agree to. Before your first session I’ll share a short service agreement and consent form to read and sign. That signed document is the one that applies. This page is a plain summary of it.

Who provides the service

Counselling at Percept Therapy is provided by Parsa Hosseini, a PACFA Registered Counsellor. Counselling is not the same as psychology, psychiatry, or medical care, and it is not a crisis or emergency service.

What I offer

Individual counselling for adults, by telehealth and in person. I work with anxiety, depression, stress, identity, and relationships, and have experience with trauma, grief, and alcohol and other drug use. If your needs fall outside what I can offer, I’ll help you find a better fit.

How sessions work

Sessions run for 50 minutes, usually weekly to begin with. We agree times together. If you arrive late, the session still ends at the scheduled time, and the full fee applies.

Fees and cancellation

A standard session is $120. A concession rate of $80 is available for students and concession card holders. Fees are payable after the session by invoice sent to your email; cash is not accepted. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 36 hours’ notice, or the full fee applies. Counselling is not currently eligible for Medicare rebates. See the Fees & FAQ page for more.

Telehealth sessions

For telehealth, join from a private space where you won’t be overheard. Neither of us records the session. At the start I confirm your identity and your location, and I keep an emergency contact on file, so I can act if a safety concern comes up. If the connection drops, I’ll call you back on the number on file.

Confidentiality, and its limits

What you share stays confidential. There are a few limits, which I’ll go through with you at the start:

  • If there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or someone else.
  • If I’m required by law, such as a subpoena or a mandatory reporting obligation.
  • In clinical supervision, where your information is de-identified and my supervisor is bound by the same confidentiality.
  • When liaising with another professional involved in your care, and only with your consent.

Anyone I share information with is held to the same standard.

Privacy and records

I keep brief, secure records of our work, with access limited to me. Records are stored and retained in line with Australian privacy and health-records obligations, and you can ask to see or correct your information. For how the website handles enquiries, see the Privacy page.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Understand what counselling involves, and consent before we begin.
  • Ask about the approach I use, your progress, or your records at any time.
  • Confidentiality, within the limits set out above.
  • Access your records and ask for corrections.
  • Pause, skip a topic, or end therapy whenever you choose, without giving a reason.
  • Ask for a referral elsewhere.
  • Respectful treatment, free from discrimination.
  • Raise a concern or complaint without it affecting your care.

Your responsibilities

I ask that you:

  • Give at least 36 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule.
  • Pay invoices on the agreed terms.
  • Arrive on time.
  • Share information that is honest and relevant, including any change in risk or safety.
  • Keep your contact details current, and for telehealth your location and emergency contact.
  • Treat me, the premises, and anyone else in a shared building with respect.

My responsibilities

I will:

  • Work within my training and the PACFA Code of Ethics, and refer you on if your needs fall outside my scope.
  • Explain consent, confidentiality, and fees before we start, and check in when things change.
  • Keep accurate, secure records and meet my privacy obligations.
  • Attend regular clinical supervision to keep my work sound.
  • Hold professional boundaries and avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Hold current professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
  • Give reasonable notice of any planned absence.

Not an emergency service

Percept Therapy is not a crisis service, and I can’t respond to urgent messages straight away. If you are in immediate danger, call 000. For urgent support, Lifeline is 13 11 14 and Beyond Blue is 1300 22 4636. You can also visit Get help now.

Ending therapy

You can end therapy at any time, and so can I. If I’m not the right person to help, or the work is complete, I’ll say so and, if you’d like, help you find someone else. Ending doesn’t create any cost beyond the usual cancellation terms for a booked session.

Complaints

If something isn’t working, please tell me first so we can sort it out. If you’re not satisfied, you can raise a formal complaint through PACFA, my professional body.

In-person premises

When in-person sessions are available, I’ll give you the location, access instructions, and anything you need to know about the building before your first appointment.

Questions

If anything here is unclear, ask me before you sign the service agreement. You can email admin@percepttherapy.com.au. This page is a plain-English summary and general information, not legal advice. The signed service agreement provided before your first session is the document that applies.
